Making the Jump

Filed under: Through Tam's Eyes — Written by TamP on Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 @ 9:11 am

I have talked and talked about starting my own photography business.  Life kept getting in the way but, with a LOT of encouragement from my husband, I am finally going to make that jump.  And pray that I don’t fall in the middle of that canyon.

I have several things on my to-do list before I open for business.

  • Update this blog/website
  • Get an account with a professional printing lab DONE!
  • Write my business plan
  • Get my EIN for tax purposes
  • Get my AZ business license
  • Register the license with the city

I am sure that there are more things that I need to do, but those are just the ones at the top of my head.  I will be perfectly honest – I am terrified.  Absolutely and positively.  But, with encouragement and support from my husband, I will be open for business by the end of August.  That is my final date.

Keep an eye on this post as I accomplish my goals, and probably add more.  If you can think of any, please post them in the comments!

Unless you’re operating under your full first and last name, you’ll need to file a “Fictitious Name” or d/b/a (so I had to register “Goff Couture”). I think it’s a piece of paperwork at the federal level? And the registration lasts five years. In my case, I had to take care of the name first before getting my business license.

    Hi Sarah!

From what I understand, I need to get an EIN first, because I am not going to do business as myself, then I need to register as an LLC, then I need to register the whole thing with the city. Is that what you mean? I forgot to add EIN to my list.
