We went to Phoenix for my birthday and stayed in a hotel. When I looked out my window, I found a great photo opportunity that I wouldn’t have found if we were staying on the second floor. This definitely has taught me to look around and not just in front of my face.

One of my favorite pastimes, during the summer months, is watching storms that the monsoon brings in. When I was growing up in New Mexico, I would watch the sky because my birthday falls right in the middle of monsoon season. I remember being disappointed in the rain because we had a pool party scheduled for my birthday.
As I got into high school, I watched the sky for storms because I worked as a lifeguard. Now, I watch the sky with excitement because I know the start of monsoon season means a break in the hot Arizona heat. These are some of the pictures I have gotten so far this monsoon season.

I spent a great deal of time last night and this morning, trying to get the teeny, tiny spiders in focus. For first shots, I took a spray bottle and lightly misted the web, as suggested by my husband. I took a ton of pictures but only one or two turned out the way I wanted them to. The more I use this camera, the more I love it!
The two top shots, I took last night, with my built-in flash. I found the flash was way too powerful, so I folded up a white sheet of paper in half and put it in front of my flash. The results were much improved.

I took this picture in my garden one morning. I had one heck of a time trying to get this little guy in focus. The breeze kept moving him back and forth, I couldn’t get my camera to auto-focus on his little body, etc. So, I took my lens off of auto-focus and waited patiently for the breeze to stop and FINALLY, I got this shot.

I have already posted some butterfly shots that I got while in New Mexico. This next shot is the one I had been waiting for all day. I believe I spent several hours throughout the entire day, trying to catch a butterfly. I finally got it and boy, was I triumphant! It is my favorite butterfly shot – as of right now!
