There are many pros and cons about living in the desert. Cons – the heat. Good grief, the heat! However, to balance that out, you can find undeniable beauty. For instance, this spineless prickly pear. (Which, by the way, last summer I made prickly pear jelly out of the pears. It was delicious!)

This is a lemon blossom that we had growing last spring. I did do some burning as the leaf in the bottom, left corner was super bright. Otherwise, I made no digital changes to this picture. It was actually taken mid-to-late morning and I still got fantastic shadows!

I am a big flower fan. I suppose it comes from working in a flower shop and taking their event pictures. I love to try and spy out all of the ways a flower can be seen and then try to show everyone else what I see.

I love to take pictures of flowers. I like to get up close and see all of the tiny details that you miss when you just glance at a flower. I took these shots in Phoenix when we were there for my birthday a couple of weeks ago.

When I shoot up close and personal, I love to play with the depth of field. I like to see what types of pictures can be seen just by changing where I am focusing.
